At the Monastero de Santa Catalina while I was creating the image above a women walks up behind me and starts singing, “the hills are alive with the sound of music.” and then starts laughing. Glad I took the picture before I busted up myself. Lordy! that was funny especially with an Argentinean accent.

So I spented a few minutes chatting with Mercedes, the singer and her friend Catalina.

The Smell of Nothing

Yes, that’s right. That would be called clean air. I was walking back to Cusco from Tambomachay along the road side when I realized I didn’t smell a thing. It was so refreshing. Then a soft breeze filled the air with eucalyptus. All was well until the deserted road came to life with cars and their exhaust.  The moment was short lived but worth it.

Picture, One Sole

On weekends and holidays the villagers came to the city center to work. They dressed in their native outfits and offer to pose for a picture for one sole. That would be about .33 cents US. It was sweet at first but after days of being hit up for a sole here and 50 soles there(Richard and his 50 soles shoe shine) enough was enough. By the end of the trip “no gracias” wasn’t working so I had them talk to the hand and everyone knew what that meant and left me alone.

Hey there friends. I’m back safe and sound as of about 5 hours ago. Sorry I didn’t update while I was gone but it was just such a full on trip that I wanted to savor my experiences before I wrote about them. I am uploading images to my computer as I write so I hope to start posting posts with images tomorrow. I may be a bit optimistic but anything is possable. More soon.

how it all started

I’m not sure really. Well I take that back. I was so inspired by my chiropractor, Dr Mary Collings, she glowed with excitement and purpose after her trip to Ecuador with Costner Medical Mission. I’ve been looking for a different avenue for my photography so I asked Dr Mary to let me know when she was going on her next mission trip because I wanted to go as the photographer.

The beginning of June I find out they are planning a mission trip for September 1st. Awesome I’m ready. Once the dust clears it’s August 1st and we are hiking to a couple of villages along the Inca Trail in Peru. An extra month to train and raise money would have been nice but sometimes you just gotta say “what the hey!”

So here I go.

July 28th to August 11th.
